Revived Pan Am Targets Airbus A320neo Fleet for Relaunch

Pan American World Airways co-founder Ed Wegel said the revived version of the iconic airline plans to operate Airbus A320neo aircraft once ongoing supply chain disruptions and engine reliability issues are resolved. Wegel noted that the narrowbody jets would be introduced “at some point in the future,” aligning fleet decisions with improved aircraft availability and technical stability.
Pan American Global Holdings, which acquired the Pan Am brand in 2023, is working with AVi8 Air Capital to begin the airline certification process in the United States. The effort includes securing a Part 121 scheduled air carrier certificate, a key regulatory step toward restoring Pan Am as a commercial airline.
The move marks the latest attempt to resurrect one of aviation’s most recognizable brands. Pan Am ceased operations in 1991, but its name continues to carry strong global recognition. Executives behind the revival believe a modern, fuel-efficient Airbus A320neo fleet would support competitive operating costs and align the airline with current sustainability and efficiency expectations in the U.S. market.
