Betwixtmas Travel: The Best Time for a Calm Year-End Escape

Share

A new study by Hotels.com has identified one of the year’s fastest-growing travel trends: Betwixtmas, the period between Christmas and New Year’s. This once-overlooked window is quickly becoming a prime time for travelers seeking a calm, crowd-free getaway before the new year begins.

According to the study, travel searches for Betwixtmas dates have doubled compared with spring break, while interest in all-inclusive resorts during this period is 140 percent higher than during the rest of December. As more companies grant employees the entire week off, travelers are using this time to escape without returning to a backlog of work.

All-inclusive resorts are at the center of the Betwixtmas trend, offering simplicity, predictable pricing, and minimal planning. Gen Z travelers are leading the shift, with “minimal stress” cited as their top reason for choosing all-inclusive stays. The focus is on unwinding, disconnecting, and starting the new year feeling recharged rather than rushed.

Hotels.com data shows strong growth in Betwixtmas bookings across popular beach destinations. Searches for Playa del Carmen are up 50 percent, while Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic has seen a 45 percent increase. Aruba follows with a 40 percent rise, and Turks and Caicos along with San Juan, Puerto Rico, are both up 35 percent. St. Lucia and St. Thomas also rank among the most in-demand Betwixtmas escapes.

“The week after Christmas is that magical time when email is slow, calories don’t count, and it’s time to mentally clock out,” said Melanie Fish, vice president of communications at Hotels.com. “Our research shows Gen Z travelers are drawn to all-inclusive resorts for minimal stress, which perfectly matches the Betwixtmas mindset.”

Guest reviews highlight several properties that consistently deliver on relaxation and disconnecting. Zoetry Marigot Bay in St. Lucia stands out for nature lovers seeking tranquility and luxury.
