Boeing and Kazakhstan’s flag carrier Air Astana have finalized an order for up to 15 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, marking the largest single aircraft purchase in the airline’s history and signaling a major step in its long-haul expansion strategy.

The agreement, initially announced as a commitment in November 2025, includes firm orders for 787-9 aircraft designed to modernize and expand Air Astana’s widebody fleet. The new jets will support network growth while enhancing passenger comfort, improving fuel efficiency and increasing operational flexibility.

In addition to the direct order, three more 787-9 aircraft are expected to join the fleet through leasing arrangements. Once delivered, Air Astana’s total Dreamliner fleet could reach up to 18 aircraft, significantly boosting its intercontinental capacity and strengthening its position across key markets in Asia, Europe and other long-haul destinations.

The Boeing 787-9 is known for its extended range capabilities, advanced composite airframe and reduced fuel burn compared to earlier-generation widebodies. For Air Astana, the aircraft will play a central role in supporting new route launches and higher frequencies on existing long-haul services while maintaining cost efficiency.

The deal underscores continued demand for next-generation aircraft in emerging aviation markets. Boeing recently confirmed additional agreements in Asia, including a 737 MAX order from Air Cambodia, reflecting airlines’ focus on modern fleets that offer lower operating costs and improved environmental performance.

For Air Astana, the Dreamliner acquisition aligns with its broader fleet renewal and modernization strategy. By investing in fuel-efficient aircraft, the airline aims to enhance competitiveness, deliver a premium onboard experience and advance sustainability objectives.

With deliveries scheduled over the coming years, the expanded 787 fleet is expected to provide the Kazakh carrier with greater flexibility to pursue new international opportunities and strengthen its role as a key connector between Central Asia and global markets.
