Transport Canada Certifies Gulfstream G700, G800

Transport Canada has certified the Gulfstream G700 and G800 business jets, formally adding both aircraft to type certificate #A-226 on February 23. The certificate was originally issued for the G650 and has now been amended to include the two newest long-range models from Gulfstream Aerospace.
The certification process began in 2024 and concluded with the regulator’s approval, clearing the way for the aircraft to operate under Canadian jurisdiction and enabling deliveries and registrations tied to Canadian operators. The decision follows Transport Canada’s recent validation of the GVII-G500 and GVII-G600, completed roughly one week earlier, marking a significant milestone for Gulfstream’s latest generation of large-cabin jets in the Canadian market.
The G700 and G800 represent the flagship end of Gulfstream’s product line, offering extended range, advanced avionics, and updated cabin configurations aimed at the ultra-long-haul business aviation segment. With Canadian certification secured, operators can now integrate the aircraft into cross-border and international operations that require recognition by multiple aviation authorities.
Transport Canada’s approval also carries broader regulatory and political significance. In late January, US President Donald Trump publicly threatened to decertify aircraft manufactured in Canada, specifically referencing Bombardier Business Aircraft’s Global Express series, unless Canada approved the new Gulfstream models. While no formal decertification action was taken, the remarks introduced uncertainty into transatlantic certification dynamics and heightened scrutiny of bilateral aviation regulatory processes.
By amending the existing G650 type certificate rather than issuing a separate one, Transport Canada streamlined the validation process for the G700 and G800. This approach reflects the aircrafts’ technical lineage within Gulfstream’s portfolio and aligns with established certification practices for derivative models.
The coordinated certification of four Gulfstream aircraft within a short timeframe underscores the close regulatory engagement between Canadian authorities and US manufacturers. For Gulfstream, securing Transport Canada approval enhances market access and supports sales campaigns targeting Canadian operators and international customers who require multi-jurisdictional certification for fleet planning and financing.
The move reinforces Canada’s role as a key jurisdiction in global business aviation certification and ensures that Gulfstream’s newest long-range jets are fully cleared for operations involving Canadian-registered aircraft and airspace.
