Crystal Cabin Award 2026 Finalists Unveiled at AIX

The 24 finalists for the 2026 Crystal Cabin Award have been announced following a vote by the international judging panel. Established in 2007 and backed by Hamburg Aviation, the Crystal Cabin Award is one of the industry’s most prestigious honors, recognizing excellence and innovation in aircraft cabin design, technology and passenger experience.
A panel of 27 cabin industry experts reviewed 85 shortlisted entries from airlines, manufacturers, suppliers, design studios and startups worldwide, selecting finalists across eight categories. The innovations span comfort, accessibility, sustainability, digitalization, operational efficiency and onboard safety, reflecting the rapid evolution of aircraft interiors.
In the Cabin Concepts category, All Nippon Airways, working with Acumen Design Associates, reached the finals with THE Room FX business-class suite for the Boeing 787-9. The compact design combines two seats into a single structure, reducing weight and maximizing capacity through a mechanism that keeps the backrest fixed while the legrest moves to create a lie-flat surface. Design Investment, with Air France and Stelia Aerospace, is competing with La Premiere, a four-abreast first-class suite for the Boeing 777 featuring separate seating and sleeping zones. Thompson Aero Seating was shortlisted for VantageNOVA First, a flexible front-row platform that transforms from a single seat into double or four-seat “Star” dining configurations.
In Accessibility, Airbus, Ipeco Holdings and AMF-Bruns present the Airspace U Suite, enabling wheelchair users to remain in their own chairs during flight. RAVE Aerospace is a finalist for a live transcription and translation system that displays real-time, multilingual cabin announcements on seatback screens.
Passenger Comfort finalists include Airbus’ Airspace A350 First Class master suite concept, Spaceframe by BMW Designworks with its modular recyclable economy seat, and Collins Aerospace’s SkyNook semi-private aft-cabin retreat zones.
Cabin Technologies highlights include AviusULD’s SmartULD fire detection tag, Jamco and JAXA’s crew-centered C-Galley, and ZAL’s AI-based automated cabin inspection system.
In IFEC and Digital Services, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines and Veyond Metaverse showcase connected onboard platforms and real-time medical support solutions.
Sustainable Cabin finalists include Recaro Aircraft Seating, Testori 1904 and ZIM Aircraft Seating, while the Breakthrough Start-ups category features GMI, Quvia and Smair. In the University category, the Georgia Institute of Technology and Guangdong University of Technology present data-driven catering, cleaning optimization and adaptive seating concepts.
Winners will be announced April 14 at the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce during Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg.
