Transport Canada Civil Aviation has granted type certification to the Airbus H175 super-medium helicopter, clearing the aircraft for entry into service in the Canadian market and expanding Airbus Helicopters’ footprint in North America.

The certification, confirmed on February 19, 2026, marks a significant milestone for the H175 program. Airbus Helicopters described the approval as a pivotal moment for Canada’s rotary-wing sector, opening new opportunities for operators across multiple mission profiles.

The H175 is designed to support a wide range of operations, including search and rescue, emergency medical services, offshore transport, private and business aviation, public services, and defense missions. Its versatility and performance capabilities make it particularly suited to Canada’s demanding geography and climate, where operators often face extreme weather conditions and long-distance missions.

Bart Reijnen, Head of Airbus Helicopters North America, said the certification reflects the dedication of Airbus teams and the aircraft’s capabilities. He noted that the approval reinforces Airbus’ commitment to providing Canadian customers with advanced rotary-wing solutions focused on performance, safety and operational efficiency. The certification also positions the H175 as a strong option for operators seeking a dependable platform for critical missions across Canada’s vast and often remote regions.

The H175 has already secured certifications from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency and the Civil Aviation Administration of China, supporting its global deployment. Since entering service in December 2014, the aircraft has accumulated approximately 300,000 flight hours worldwide, demonstrating operational maturity across a variety of environments and mission types.

Equipped with Airbus Helicopters’ Helionix avionics suite, the H175 offers enhanced situational awareness, reduced pilot workload and advanced safety features. The integrated cockpit design supports more intuitive flight management while contributing to improved mission performance. The helicopter can accommodate up to 18 passengers, providing a smooth and comfortable ride for transport missions while maintaining the flexibility required for specialized configurations.

With Canadian certification now secured, Airbus is expected to target operators in sectors such as offshore energy, air ambulance services and government operations. The approval strengthens Airbus Helicopters’ competitive position in the super-medium segment and broadens the range of aircraft available to Canadian customers seeking modern, multi-role rotary-wing platforms.
