Qantas will make aviation history in December 2026 with the launch of the first nonstop flights between Australia and Las Vegas, introducing a new seasonal service that removes the need for connections through other US gateways.

The route will operate between Sydney Kingsford Smith International Airport (SYD) and Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) from December 29, 2026, to March 12, 2027. Flights will run three times per week using Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. Qantas said the nonstop link will cut travel time by up to five hours compared with current itineraries that require connections via Los Angeles or San Francisco.

Las Vegas becomes Qantas’s 101st destination and its eighth city across North and South America. The airline already serves Los Angeles, San Francisco, Honolulu, Dallas, New York, Vancouver, and Santiago. The new service is timed to capture demand around major Las Vegas events, including the Consumer Electronics Show and the National Rugby League’s annual Las Vegas Festival.

Qantas International CEO Cam Wallace said strong outbound demand continues to shape the carrier’s network strategy, with seasonal routes such as Rome and Sapporo demonstrating that Australians are willing to travel long-haul to destinations that align with peak holiday periods. Qantas has also operated charter flights to Las Vegas in partnership with the NRL for the past three years, with recent services selling out.

Las Vegas is a key market for Australian travelers, attracting more than 250,000 visitors from Australia annually. Tourism officials note that Australia ranks among the city’s largest overseas markets and is currently the largest without nonstop service. The new flights are also expected to stimulate inbound US tourism to Australia, with the United States already one of Australia’s most significant source markets.

The service will operate as flight QF55, departing Sydney at 21:00 local time and arriving in Las Vegas at 15:55 local time after approximately 13 hours and 55 minutes. Return economy fares are expected to start from around US$736, positioning the route competitively for leisure travelers.

Qantas said its ongoing fleet renewal program provides the flexibility to deploy aircraft on high-demand seasonal routes. The Las Vegas launch reflects the airline’s strategy of targeting peak travel windows while maximizing aircraft utilization across its long-haul network.
