AerCap has placed a major new aircraft order with Airbus, signing a firm agreement for 100 additional A320neo Family jets, reinforcing its position as the world’s largest aircraft lessor and a key driver of global fleet modernization.

Announced in Toulouse on March 18, 2026, the order includes 23 A320neo and 77 A321neo aircraft. The deal reflects AerCap’s continued focus on investing in high-demand, fuel-efficient aircraft to support airline customers seeking both capacity growth and replacement of older fleets.

AerCap CEO Aengus Kelly said the order underscores strong long-term demand for next-generation narrowbody aircraft. He emphasized that the company’s strategy centers on acquiring assets that deliver superior economics and lower emissions, ensuring airlines can operate more efficiently while meeting sustainability targets.

The transaction marks AerCap’s largest direct order for the A320neo Family with Airbus, highlighting the enduring popularity of the platform. Airbus executives described the deal as a strong endorsement of the aircraft’s performance, efficiency, and global market appeal.

The A320neo Family remains the world’s best-selling single-aisle aircraft, with more than 19,000 orders worldwide. The range includes the A321neo, the largest variant, which offers extended range and increased passenger capacity, making it particularly attractive for both high-density and longer-haul narrowbody routes.

A key factor behind the aircraft’s demand is its efficiency. The A320neo Family delivers at least 20% lower fuel burn and CO₂ emissions compared to previous-generation aircraft, significantly reducing operating costs for airlines. The aircraft also features one of the widest cabins in the single-aisle segment, enhancing passenger comfort and supporting premium cabin configurations.

Sustainability remains central to Airbus’ strategy. The A320neo Family is currently capable of operating with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), with a target of reaching 100% SAF capability by 2030. This aligns with growing industry efforts to decarbonize aviation and meet increasingly strict environmental regulations.

For AerCap, the order ensures continued leadership in providing modern, efficient aircraft to airlines worldwide. As carriers accelerate fleet renewal programs and respond to rising fuel costs, demand for fuel-efficient narrowbody jets is expected to remain strong well into the next decade.
