Windstar Upgrades Wind Star Yacht With Full Refit

Windstar Cruises has completed a comprehensive refurbishment of Wind Star, its iconic 148-guest sailing yacht, marking a major milestone for the vessel nearly 40 years after its debut.

The fully reimagined yacht will sail across the Mediterranean this spring before transitioning to the Greek Isles for the summer and fall seasons. Looking ahead, Wind Star is scheduled to relocate to Tahiti in 2027, expanding its presence in one of the brand’s most popular destinations.

The transformation is part of Windstar’s multi-year Setting Sails initiative, an extensive fleetwide upgrade program designed to modernize its sailing yachts while preserving their signature character. Wind Star becomes the first vessel in the Wind Class fleet to complete both phases of the refurbishment.

“This transformation is about honoring where we started while sailing confidently into what’s next,” said Stijn Creupelandt, chief operating officer of Windstar Cruises. “As our original sailing yacht, Wind Star has always held a special place in our fleet. With these updates, we’ve preserved what guests love while enhancing every aspect of the onboard experience.”

Among the most notable upgrades is a complete redesign of Amphora, the yacht’s signature restaurant. The space now features updated flooring, new wall and ceiling finishes, custom banquette seating, and refreshed furnishings, creating a more contemporary dining environment. The Veranda restaurant has also been revamped, with refreshed interiors and a redesigned buffet layout to improve flow and guest experience.

Guest accommodations have been elevated with new upholstered headboards, integrated lighting, and bedside charging stations, aligning with modern traveler expectations. These enhancements build on earlier upgrades that introduced advanced technology, including Starlink connectivity, new televisions with on-demand content, and a redesigned Owner’s Suite.

Public areas across the yacht have also undergone significant improvements in previous phases, including updates to the lobby, Compass Rose Lounge, Yacht Club Café, pool deck, World Spa by Windstar, and fitness center.

Windstar Cruises plans to continue the program across its fleet, with the 342-guest Wind Surf scheduled to complete Phase 2 in December, followed by Wind Spirit in March 2027. The initiative underscores the brand’s commitment to delivering an upgraded yet authentic small-ship sailing experience.
