A4A CEO, industry look towards summer travel season
Airlines for America President and CEO Nicholas Calio participated in a joint press event with Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, acting TSA Administrator Darby LaJoye, and industry leaders from Airports Council International, American Association of Airport Executives, National Air Carrier Association and the U.S. Travel Association to remind travelers to comply with the federal mask mandate on airplanes and in airports. Domestic travel continues to recover as more Americans receive coronavirus vaccinations. The TSA screened 1.8 million passengers on May 23, which was still 10% down compared to 2019. Despite increased demand for domestic destinations, Calio emphasized that, “we need to open up business travel and we need to open up international markets. That’s where most of the revenue is, and that revenue subsidizes a great number of our domestic flights.”
