AerCap has signed a new lease agreement with FlySafair for five Boeing 737 aircraft, marking the South African carrier’s first commitment to the 737 MAX. The deal includes three Boeing 737 MAX 8s and two 737-800NGs.

Announced at the Dubai Airshow on November 18, 2025, the agreement outlines deliveries beginning in summer 2026 for the 737-800NGs, followed by the arrival of FlySafair’s first-ever 737 MAX aircraft in 2028.

“We are very pleased to welcome FlySafair as a new customer to AerCap and to support their fleet modernization plan,” said Peter Anderson, CCO of AerCap. “We thank the team at FlySafair for their partnership and wish them every success as they expand their network to meet growing customer demand.”

FlySafair, which currently operates an all-Boeing fleet of 32 Boeing 737-800s and one 737-400, said the agreement marks a major milestone in its growth strategy. “This partnership represents a meaningful investment in efficiency, sustainability and passenger experience,” said Kirby Gordon, chief marketing officer.

Boeing also welcomed the announcement. “The addition of three 737 MAX airplanes marks a significant step in FlySafair’s fleet modernization journey,” said Anbessie Yitbarek, vice president of sales and marketing for Africa at Boeing Commercial Airplanes. “FlySafair will join more than 80 airlines flying the 737 MAX globally.”

The Dubai Airshow proved to be productive for African carriers overall, with Ethiopian Airlines, Air Senegal and Airlink also unveiling new commercial agreements.
