Aero Dili Launches Direct Flights from Dili to Xiamen, China

Aero Dili has launched scheduled flights between Dili and Xiamen, marking its first route to China. The inaugural flight took off on February 14, 2025, with services running twice monthly, set to increase to four and later eight.
President Jose Ramos-Horta highlighted Xiamen’s selection due to the significant Chinese community in Timor-Leste, predominantly from Fujian Province. “This new route will enhance mobility and strengthen historical, cultural, and economic ties,” he said.
Aero Dili CEO Lourenço de Oliveira acknowledged the challenges of launching the service but emphasized China’s potential as a significant market for the airline. The flights are supported by a 30% seat guarantee from the Timor-Leste government and operate with Aero Dili’s Airbus A320-200, registered 4W-AAL.
The privately-owned carrier, which began jet operations in 2023, also flies to Denpasar and Singapore. It recently acquired an Airbus A319-100, set to join the fleet in March to support network expansion.
Aero Dili aims to position Dili as a regional transit hub, connecting travelers to Bali, Darwin, and Melbourne.
