Aeroflot Group plans to take delivery of over 100 MC-21-300 aircraft by 2030, CEO Sergei Aleksandrovsky told Russia-24. The airline has already started preparations for operations with the new Russian-built aircraft, recently approved for production by Rosaviatsiya, Russia’s civil aviation regulator.

Aleksandrovsky noted strong interest from pilots to retrain for the MC-21 and announced plans to build up to four additional hangars, allowing simultaneous maintenance of up to ten MC-21-300s. Aeroflot’s delivery schedule aligns with Rostec’s goal to produce 200 Russian-made jets by 2030. However, UAC United Aircraft Corporation has yet to complete certification flights of the fully import-substituted MC-21-300 powered by Aviadvigatel PD-14 engines. Serial production is expected to start in 2026.

Aeroflot is slated to lease 198 MC-21-300s from Avia Capital Services, alongside 40 Tu-214s and 55 SJ 100s. According to ch-aviation data, Aeroflot’s current fleet includes 52 A320-200s, six A320-200Ns, 32 A321-200s, three A321-200NXs, 12 A330-300s, seven A350-900s, 36 Boeing 737-800s, and 22 Boeing 777-300ERs.

Aeroflot subsidiary Rossiya will also standardize its fleet around the MC-21-300, phasing out widebodies and older types. Rossiya’s fleet currently includes A319s, A320s, 737s, 747s, 777s, and 75 SSJ 100/95Bs. Rossiya is set to receive 34 SJ 100s and 63 MC-21-300s, eventually leasing out the SSJ 100s to other carriers.

With Western aircraft access blocked due to EU and US sanctions, Russia is accelerating efforts to replace foreign aircraft with domestically produced models.
