AeroItalia Adds Wet-Leased E175 to Fleet
AeroItalia (XZ, Rome Fiumicino) has finalized a wet lease agreement with Marathon Airlines (O8, Athens) for an Embraer E175, altering its previous plan to dry lease the aircraft.
The E175, registered as SX-ASK (msn 17000330), commenced operations for AeroItalia on January 5, 2025, with its maiden flight between Comiso and Perugia. Since then, the 13.3-year-old aircraft, painted in AeroItalia’s livery, has operated flights to destinations including Rome Fiumicino, Cuneo, Trapani, and Bologna, according to ADS-B data. The aircraft had been stored at Bydgoszcz Ignacy Jan Paderewski Airport from September 2024 until early January 2025.
Under the wet lease agreement, the aircraft will remain with AeroItalia for at least six months, with an option for extension, according to CEO Ugo Calvosa. Configured in a single-class layout, the E175 seats 88 passengers. It is owned by Blackbird Capital and managed by Air Lease Corporation.
AeroItalia’s in-house fleet includes two ATR72-600s and nine B737-800s. The airline also wet-leases two A319-100s from Fly Air41 Airways and one B737-400 from 4 Airways.
While AeroItalia initially planned to wet-lease two E175s and one E190 from Marathon Airlines and dry lease SX-ASK, ADS-B data reveals that the remaining aircraft have not yet operated for AeroItalia. Two E175s remain stored in Bydgoszcz, and the E190 is currently wet-leased to United Nigeria Airlines. Marathon Airlines also operates an E195 for Camair-Co.
This wet lease strengthens AeroItalia’s fleet flexibility as it navigates dynamic market demands.
