Argentina’s flagship carrier, Aerolineas Argentinas, has ceased its flights between Buenos Aires and New York, leaving American Airlines as the sole operator on this route.

The suspension of the Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) to New York John F. Kennedy (JFK) service, which had been operating three times a week with Airbus A330-200 aircraft, marks the end of an 11-year period of service, excluding interruptions during the pandemic. Aerolineas Argentinas will now focus on its sole U.S. route, operating twice daily flights to Miami International Airport.

American Airlines will continue to offer nonstop flights on the EZE-JFK route daily using Boeing 777-200/200ER aircraft. Delta Air Lines will enter this sector in the winter 2024-25 season, resuming daily flights with Airbus A330-900s.

Previously, Aerolineas Argentinas had served New York continuously from 1950 until 2008, when the route was temporarily suspended. The service was reinstated in 2013 following a codeshare agreement with Delta, but the airline has now chosen to focus on more profitable destinations.

In place of the New York route, Aerolineas Argentinas is launching new routes, including daily flights from Santiago to Buenos Aires Aeroparque and Rio de Janeiro, as well as Santiago to Buenos Aires and Sao Paulo starting in October.

Additionally, the airline is expanding its presence in the Dominican Republic with new routes. A new 2X-weekly service from Cordoba to Punta Cana begins on September 13, followed by weekly Tucuman-Punta Cana and Rosario-Punta Cana flights starting in January 2025. Frequencies on the EZE-Punta Cana route will also increase from six to seven times weekly.
