Aerolíneas Grounds Eight Boeing 737-800s After Engine Issue

Aerolíneas Argentinas has grounded eight of its Boeing 737-800 aircraft equipped with CFM International CFM56 engines following an in-flight engine failure on October 15, 2025. The incident occurred shortly after takeoff from Buenos Aires Jorge Newbery Airport during flight AR1526 to Córdoba International, operated by aircraft LV-FSK. The pilots diverted safely to Buenos Aires Ministro Pistarini Airport.
In response, the airline temporarily suspended operations of the affected jets to allow its maintenance team to conduct detailed inspections of the engines. Aerolíneas Argentinas stated that CFM International recommends inspections after 17,200 flight cycles, though none of the grounded engines had reached that limit. The carrier has requested technical input from the engine manufacturer and other regional operators using the same engine type to determine the cause and appropriate safety measures.
The aircraft affected by the suspension are registered as LV-FQY, LV-FQZ, LV-FSK, LV-FUA, LV-FUB, LV-FUC, LV-FVM, and LV-FVO. The airline emphasized that the grounding is a precautionary measure to ensure passenger safety and operational reliability.
Aerolíneas Argentinas operates twenty-eight Boeing 737-800s as part of its narrowbody fleet, in addition to five Boeing 737-700s, thirteen Boeing 737-8s, two Boeing 737-800SF freighters, and twenty-four Embraer E190 regional jets. The airline said it expects to resume operations with the affected aircraft once the technical inspections are complete and engine performance is verified.
