Aeromexico is embarking on an extensive expansion of its transborder network to the United States in 2024, introducing 17 new routes from various Mexican airports. This expansion will significantly increase connectivity between Mexico and the United States and follows the restoration of Mexico’s Category 1 safety rating by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in September 2023. Here are the key details of Aeromexico’s expansion plans:

Aeromexico plans to launch 17 new transborder routes to the United States from seven Mexican airports. The introduction of these routes is scheduled to begin in January 2024.

These new routes will be codeshared with Aeromexico’s joint venture partner, Delta Air Lines, providing passengers with enhanced connectivity and travel options.

The expansion follows the restoration of Mexico’s Category 1 safety rating by the FAA, allowing Mexican airlines to establish new routes and codeshare agreements with U.S. carriers. Mexico had previously been downgraded to Category 2 in May 2021.

Among the new routes, Aeromexico will connect four Mexican destinations with Delta’s hubs in Atlanta and Detroit, as well as Los Angeles and New York. Additionally, flights will be launched from Mexico City’s Felipe Angeles International Airport to Dallas-Fort Worth and McAllen in Texas.

Aeromexico’s expansion aims to offer travelers more choices and connectivity between Mexico and the United States, a crucial market for both countries.

The airline plans to continue investing in its fleet, products, and services to ensure a safe and comfortable travel experience for its passengers.

By July 2024, Aeromexico anticipates operating 60 daily flights to the United States, reflecting a 35% increase compared to the current year. The airline already serves 19 destinations in the U.S., including major cities like Boston, Chicago, Houston, Las Vegas, Miami, Orlando, San Francisco, and Washington D.C.

Aeromexico’s expansion aligns with its strategy to strengthen its presence in the lucrative U.S.-Mexico travel market and provide more travel options for passengers traveling between the two countries.
