AI-Powered Cyberattacks Target Global Hotels

Hotels worldwide are facing a growing cybersecurity threat as hackers deploy artificial intelligence (AI) to steal guest payment information. Kaspersky’s Global Research and Analysis Team (GReAT) reported that between June and August 2025, a hacker group known as RevengeHotels launched a new wave of AI-driven attacks, primarily targeting hotels in Brazil but also spreading to properties in other countries.

RevengeHotels, active since 2015, has long focused on the hospitality sector, exploiting reservation and payment systems to capture sensitive financial data. However, experts warn that the group has now significantly upgraded its tactics by leveraging AI, making their operations more precise, harder to detect, and capable of expanding to new regions.

The attacks typically infiltrate hotel management software and reservation systems, giving cybercriminals access to stored or transmitted guest data. Once inside, they use automated AI-driven tools to extract information at scale. The stolen details can then be sold on the dark web or used directly in financial fraud.

Security specialists note that hotels are particularly vulnerable because of the vast amount of personal and financial data they handle daily, combined with varying levels of IT investment across the industry. Smaller independent hotels are often the most at risk, as they may lack the cybersecurity infrastructure of larger chains.

Experts stress that the latest wave of attacks highlights an urgent need for hotels to strengthen defenses, invest in AI-powered security tools of their own, and train staff to recognize suspicious activity before guest trust and brand reputations are further damaged.
