Airbus has confirmed that Kazakhstan’s flag carrier Air Astana has placed a firm order for 25 A320neo Family aircraft, marking its largest-ever commitment to the European manufacturer.

Announced on March 2, 2026, the agreement covers five A320neo and 20 A321neo aircraft. The new jets will be operated by both Air Astana and its low-cost subsidiary FlyArystan, supporting the group’s fleet expansion and modernization strategy as regional and international demand continues to grow.

The milestone comes 20 years after Air Astana introduced its first Airbus A320 into service in 2006, underscoring a long-standing partnership between the airline and the manufacturer.

“Air Astana’s large order for a new fleet of Airbus A320neo Family aircraft reflects a commitment to maintaining its reputation for operational efficiency and service excellence in the long term,” said Peter Foster, CEO of Air Astana.

The order follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed in November 2025 for up to 50 A320neo Family aircraft. Shareholders subsequently approved the firm agreement in February 2026, paving the way for the confirmed purchase.

Foster highlighted the performance of the aircraft already in service, particularly the A321LR variant configured for premium operations. He said the A321LR enables the airline to offer what it considers one of the world’s leading narrowbody long-haul products, combining extended range with a high-quality onboard experience tailored to both business and leisure travelers.

Air Astana and FlyArystan currently operate a combined fleet of 59 Airbus A320 Family aircraft. The A320 Family remains the world’s best-selling single-aisle aircraft program, with more than 19,000 orders recorded globally, driven by strong demand for fuel efficiency, lower emissions and reduced operating costs.

Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus EVP Sales of the Commercial Aircraft business, said the order reinforces the A320neo Family’s strong economics and appeal in fast-growing aviation markets. He added that Airbus looks forward to continuing its long-term partnership with Air Astana as the carrier strengthens connectivity between Kazakhstan and key destinations across Asia, Europe and beyond.
