Air Astana Orders Up to 15 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners to Expand Global Reach

Kazakhstan’s flag carrier Air Astana and Boeing announced on November 6, 2025, that the airline will purchase up to 15 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners as part of its fleet modernization and global network expansion program. Under the agreement, Air Astana aims to strengthen its long-haul operations and enhance the passenger experience with Boeing’s latest widebody aircraft.
The deal marks the airline’s largest single-aircraft purchase to date. With three additional 787-9s to be acquired through leasing in the near term, Air Astana’s total commitment to the Dreamliner family will reach up to 18 aircraft.
“Air Astana is strategically committed to boosting its service capabilities from Central Asia and the Caucasus to Asia, Europe, and the rest of the world over the next decade,” said Peter Foster, CEO of Air Astana. “With its customer-friendly cabin, fuel efficiency, and range flexibility, the fleet of up to 18 Boeing 787-9 aircraft is destined to become an outstanding success with our airline and its discerning passengers.”
Air Astana currently operates three Boeing 767 widebody jets serving destinations across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. The introduction of the 787-9, configured for 303 passengers, will enhance capacity and operational range, enabling the airline to launch new long-haul routes — including potential expansion into North American markets.
Paul Righi, Boeing’s vice president of Commercial Sales for Eurasia and India, highlighted the importance of the deal: “Boeing airplanes have been integral to Air Astana’s operations from the beginning, and we’re proud the 787 Dreamliner will support Central Asia’s growing prominence in global aviation. Air Astana’s expansion aligns perfectly with its vision to boost efficiency while elevating service quality.”
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner family remains one of the most advanced and fuel-efficient widebody aircraft in commercial aviation. Known for its composite airframe, quiet cabin, and long-range capability, the 787 enables airlines to reduce fuel burn by up to 25% while enhancing passenger comfort through higher humidity, lower cabin altitude, and improved lighting.
With this order, Air Astana joins a growing list of carriers leveraging the 787 Dreamliner’s versatility to serve global markets. The aircraft family currently carries about 500,000 passengers daily across routes connecting more countries than any other widebody fleet.
