Air Botswana Extends GM Lulu Rasebotsa Suspension

Air Botswana (BP) has extended the suspension of its general manager, Lulu Rasebotsa, for another 30 working days while an investigation into allegations of mismanagement and operational inefficiencies continues. Rasebotsa was initially placed on administrative leave on June 30, 2025, but the first 30-day suspension period ended without resolution.

According to the Botswana Guardian, the new board, appointed on June 27, has faced challenges in conducting its inquiry. Internal restrictions, including policies requiring legal vetting and management authorisation before access to sensitive information, have slowed progress. Reports also suggest that some staff members have been reluctant to cooperate, possibly due to involvement in earlier decisions or direct ties to Rasebotsa.

An Air Botswana spokeswoman confirmed the extension of the general manager’s leave but declined to provide further details. Rasebotsa herself has not commented publicly on the situation.

The suspension came shortly after the appointment of a new board as part of the national carrier’s turnaround strategy. The board is chaired by Dane Kondić, former CEO of Air Serbia and euroAtlantic Airways. His appointment has drawn scrutiny given his simultaneous role as chairman of the management committee of LAM – Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (TM), a regional competitor.

The ongoing investigation is seen as a crucial step in addressing structural and operational issues at Air Botswana, which has struggled in recent years with financial instability and limited market share. The outcome of the inquiry could shape the airline’s future leadership and its long-term recovery strategy.
