Air Cambodia, orders up to 20 737 Max jets that will fly in the airline’s new livery

Boeing and Air Cambodia have announced the Southeast Asian carrier’s largest-ever single-aisle aircraft order, with a commitment for up to 20 Boeing 737 Max jets. The agreement, unveiled at the Singapore Airshow, marks Air Cambodia’s first purchase of Boeing aircraft and represents a major milestone for both the airline and the Cambodian aviation sector.

Air Cambodia has finalized a firm order for 10 Boeing 737-8 aircraft, with options for an additional 10 units. The transaction was completed in December 2025 but had previously appeared as unidentified on Boeing’s Orders and Deliveries website. Once delivered, the 737 Max will become the first Boeing aircraft operated by a Cambodian airline, underscoring the growing role of the country in the regional air travel market.

The airline plans to use the new 737-8 jets to renew and expand its fleet as demand for air travel continues to rise across Asia. With strong growth in tourism, trade and regional connectivity, Air Cambodia is positioning itself to serve high-demand routes across North and Southeast Asia more efficiently while enhancing passenger comfort and operational performance.

Air Cambodia’s leadership highlighted the strategic importance of the aircraft selection, noting that the 737-8 offers an optimal balance of range, capacity and fuel efficiency. The narrowbody jets will enable the airline to launch new nonstop routes, improve schedule flexibility, and offer competitively priced fares, while also supporting job creation and pilot and maintenance training within Cambodia.

The Boeing 737-8 is designed to carry up to 178 passengers in a typical two-class configuration and has a range of approximately 3,500 nautical miles. The aircraft delivers up to 20 percent lower fuel consumption and emissions compared with the airplanes it replaces, helping airlines reduce operating costs while improving environmental performance. These characteristics make the 737-8 particularly well suited for short- and medium-haul routes across Asia’s dense and competitive markets.

Boeing said the agreement reflects its commitment to supporting aviation growth in Cambodia and the wider Southeast Asian region. The manufacturer noted that Air Cambodia’s entry into the 737 Max customer base strengthens Boeing’s presence in a market expected to see significant long-term fleet expansion.

Air Cambodia currently operates a fleet of six single-aisle and regional aircraft, serving domestic routes and international destinations including Vietnam, Thailand, India, China, Japan and Hong Kong. Headquartered in Phnom Penh, the airline is the national full-service carrier of Cambodia and maintains its main hub at Phnom Penh International Airport, with a regional presence that includes operations in China.

According to Boeing’s Commercial Market Outlook, airlines in Southeast Asia will require nearly 5,000 new aircraft over the next 20 years, with single-aisle jets accounting for more than 80 percent of deliveries. Air Cambodia’s 737 Max order aligns with this broader growth trend, supporting its fleet modernization strategy and reinforcing its ambition to become a stronger regional player in Asian aviation.
