Boeing and Air Canada announced today the carrier is selecting the 787 Dreamliner to further modernize and grow its fleet with an order for 18 787-10 widebody jets.

Air Canada recently celebrated a significant milestone: 74 years of service to Barbados. The festivities took place on a warm December afternoon at the Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA), marking the long-standing relationship between Canada and Barbados. The event was not just a celebration of the airline’s service but also a testament to the deep-rooted connections fostered between the two nations.

The celebration was vibrant and full of cultural displays. As the Air Canada flight, piloted by Captain Karen Mundell, landed, the 272 passengers and ten crew members were welcomed by a lively atmosphere. The reception included local tourism and Canadian officials, a band, stiltwalkers, and dancers, immersing everyone in the rich Barbadian culture.

Canadian High Commissioner to Barbados, Lilian Chatterjee, was present at the event, highlighting the airline’s role in bringing people together from both countries. Her words echoed the sentiment of unity and mutual respect that has been built over the decades of service.

Shelly Williams, Chairman of Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc., also spoke at the event. She emphasized the strong relationship between Canada and Barbados, particularly in the aviation sector. Williams noted that Air Canada had made Barbados its hub for a part of the region, reflecting the airline’s confidence in the island nation.

This event was not just a commemoration of past successes but also a look forward to future prospects. Williams promised an even grander celebration for the 75th anniversary in 2024, anticipating continued growth and partnership in the years to come.
