Air Canada is significantly increasing its flight schedule to Asia, with a strategic expansion of its network capacity in the Asia-Pacific region. Starting from mid-December 2023 and extending through the end of summer 2024, the airline is boosting its operations with additional flights and deploying larger aircraft on key routes.

  • Enhanced Hong Kong and Shanghai Flights: Air Canada plans to offer 11 weekly flights to Hong Kong from December 13 to February 29, to cater to holiday and Lunar New Year travel demands, followed by 10 weekly flights from March 1 to October 26. For Shanghai, the Vancouver-Shanghai service will continue as a four-weekly year-round operation using the Boeing 787-9, but the airline will switch to the higher-capacity Boeing 777-300ER between December 1 and March 30.
  • New Singapore Route: Starting April 3, Air Canada will launch a new route to Singapore with four weekly flights. This new route is a testament to the airline’s commitment to expanding its presence in fast-growing markets in Southeast Asia.
  • Increased Flight Frequencies: This winter, Air Canada will offer up to 57 weekly flights between Canada and Asia, increasing to 64 weekly flights the following summer. This includes up to double daily flights to Hong Kong and the deployment of larger aircraft to Shanghai during peak travel periods.
  • Growth in Japanese Market: There is also a notable increase in capacity to Japan, with a 96% increase in flights this winter compared to the previous year. Seasonal flights to Osaka will resume earlier next spring, and larger aircraft will operate to Narita and Seoul.

Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President of Revenue and Network Planning at Air Canada, highlighted the strong demand for Asia services as a driving factor behind this expansion. He stated, “Our upcoming launch of our new route to Singapore and increased capacity on our successful Bangkok route underscores our continued commitment to investing in fast-growing markets in Southeast Asia.”

This expansion reflects Air Canada’s international diversification strategy and its efforts to cater to the growing demand for travel between Canada and key destinations in the Asia-Pacific region.
