Air Canada has successfully launched its inaugural direct service between Vancouver International Airport and Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport, marking a historic milestone for the carrier and strengthening ties between Canada and the Philippines. The first flight, designated AC 017, took off from Vancouver on April 2, 2025, at 13:44 local time and is currently en route to Manila. Scheduled to land at 06:20 local time on April 3, this historic service is the first of its kind offered by a Canadian airline, providing a faster and more convenient travel option for both business and leisure travelers. The flight was operated using a modern Boeing 787 Dreamliner, featuring three distinct cabins of service: Signature Class, Premium Economy, and Economy Class. The Dreamliner is renowned for its comfort, fuel efficiency, and advanced technology, which enhances the overall travel experience. The launch of this route reflects Air Canada’s commitment to innovation and meeting the evolving needs of its diverse customer base. The inaugural service was celebrated with festive activities at Vancouver International Airport beginning the day before departure. Airport officials, airline staff, and passengers joined in the festivities, which culminated just before Flight AC 017 took off. This spirited celebration underscored the significance of the new route and its potential to boost connectivity between Canada and the Philippines. Air Canada’s campaign featured employees of Filipino descent, highlighting the strong cultural and economic ties that exist between the two nations. Economic benefits from the new service are expected to be substantial, with Vancouver Airport projecting a CAD 33 million output, which is approximately US$23 million. This direct connection will facilitate travel for the large Filipino community in Canada, which numbers nearly one million, as reported in the latest census. The new route is expected to promote tourism, trade, and business opportunities, serving as a catalyst for strengthening family ties and cultural exchange across the Pacific. Mark Galardo, Air Canada’s Executive Vice President of Revenue and Network Planning and President of Cargo, expressed pride in being the only Canadian carrier offering direct service to the Philippines. He emphasized that the new flight will provide greater convenience and enhanced connectivity for millions of Canadians, making it easier to visit family and friends. British Columbia Premier David Eby praised the service, stating that it will help connect more than 170,000 Filipino Canadians in the region with their loved ones while boosting overall economic growth. With the inaugural flight now underway, Air Canada is set to transform long-haul travel between Vancouver and Manila, bridging distances and fostering cultural ties in an increasingly connected world. Passengers can look forward to a comfortable journey, modern in-flight amenities, and exceptional service throughout the flight, all designed to provide a seamless travel experience from takeoff to arrival. As the aircraft makes its way across the Pacific, travelers can enjoy direct access to Manila’s vibrant cultural scene and booming business district, while Air Canada continues to expand its global network with innovative, customer-focused services that redefine international travel. This launch marks progress.
