Air Canada is set to reintroduce two previously stored Boeing B767-300ER aircraft into passenger service in 2025, as confirmed during the airline’s third-quarter earnings presentation on November 1, 2024. Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President for revenue and network planning, stated that these aircraft were once integral to the airline’s mainline passenger fleet. He noted, “There’s still some life on them, and we can restore those aircraft on an interim basis to give us some insurance on our fleet for the next two years,” emphasizing that this move is a temporary solution.

Currently, Air Canada has two B767-300ERs in storage at Hamilton, Ontario. The first, C-FOCA (msn 24575), is 34.5 years old, having been delivered to Canadian Airlines in June 1990 before joining Air Canada in March 2001. The second, C-GCLA, is slightly younger at 33.7 years, also starting its career with Canadian Airlines in June 1991 and entering Air Canada’s fleet in October 2001. Both aircraft are powered by General Electric CF6 engines and feature a configuration of 24 business class seats and 187 economy class seats. Additionally, Air Canada operates one B767-300ER on a wet lease from Omni Air International.

The last passenger flight operated by Air Canada using the B767 was from Montréal Trudeau to Toronto Pearson on June 2, 2020. Historically, the airline’s B767 fleet included a total of 59 aircraft comprising thirteen B767-200s, ten B767-200ERs, and thirty-six B767-300ERs. While the passenger variant has been sidelined, Air Canada continues to utilize six B767-300ER(BDSF)s and two B767-300 freighters, with plans to add three more B767 freighters between 2024 and 2025.

Air Canada’s current widebody fleet consists of six B777-200LRs, nineteen B777-300ERs, eight B787-8s, thirty-one B787-9s, and twenty A330-300s. In addition to the two restored B767s, the airline anticipates taking delivery of another B787-9 in 2025 and plans to add eighteen B787-10s between 2026 and 2029.
