Air France-KLM and SAS Scandinavian Airlines System have announced a significant expansion of their partnership with new codeshare and interline agreements, set to commence on September 1, 2024. This collaboration coincides with SAS’s official entry into the SkyTeam alliance, further integrating the networks of these major European carriers.

Under the codeshare agreement, Air France and KLM will offer their customers expanded access to 33 destinations across Northern Europe via SAS’s hubs in Copenhagen, Oslo, and Stockholm. Conversely, SAS will enhance its reach with access to 33 additional destinations beyond Air France and KLM’s major hubs in Paris Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdam Schiphol airports. The agreement also promises to include intercontinental destinations in the near future, broadening the scope of travel possibilities.

The interline agreement, focusing on the European network shared by Air France, KLM, and SAS, will provide passengers with seamless travel options and enhanced connectivity across the airlines’ extensive networks.

Moreover, the partnership extends to reciprocal benefits within their loyalty programs. Members of Air France-KLM’s Flying Blue and SAS’s EuroBonus can earn and redeem miles across all flights operated by the airlines starting from the effective date of the agreements. Additionally, eligible EuroBonus members will gain access to exclusive SkyTeam services, including SkyPriority and lounge access, enhancing the travel experience.

Angus Clarke, Chief Commercial Officer at Air France-KLM, emphasized the strategic importance of these agreements, noting that they not only connect the airlines’ extensive networks but also aim to enhance service quality and strengthen their market presence in Scandinavia.

Paul Verhagen, SAS’s Chief Commercial Officer, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with Air France-KLM, highlighting the benefits of increased global visibility and connectivity for SAS. He anticipates that this alliance will attract new passengers and foster long-term cooperation.

This strengthened alliance reflects a commitment to improving connectivity and services for travelers, while also aiming to enhance competitive positioning in the European aviation market.
