Air India Express (IX) will begin scheduled operations with its new Airbus A321-200N aircraft on April 15, 2025, starting with flights between Delhi International and Bengaluru International, as well as Delhi to Srinagar. The airline will also launch services from Delhi to Ayodhya International and Jaipur on April 20, 2025.

The A321-200N will offer 180 economy class seats and 12 business class seats, providing passengers with a more comfortable flying experience. Air India Express does not currently have an outstanding order for this aircraft type, but parent company Air India operates two A321-200Ns, and has a firm order for 210 more from Airbus. It is unclear whether Air India Express will receive its A321neo aircraft from Air India’s existing fleet or from the new orders.

Air India Express’ current fleet includes 24 A320-200s, 12 A320-200Ns, 41 Boeing 737-8s, and 26 Boeing 737-800s. The low-cost carrier also has plans to expand with 50 Boeing 737-10s and 99 Boeing 737-8s in the near future.

Meanwhile, Air India is facing supply chain challenges affecting its fleet expansion. The airline’s CEO, Campbell Wilson, discussed these constraints, highlighting delays in aircraft deliveries from Airbus and Boeing, which are expected to impact Air India’s growth over the next few years. These issues have caused the airline to retain older aircraft longer, increasing maintenance costs, and making it more difficult to expand its network quickly.
