Air India Signs New Codeshare Deals with Icelandair, Air Mauritius

Air India has announced two new strategic codeshare partnerships with Icelandair and Air Mauritius during the 81st IATA Annual General Meeting held in New Delhi, aimed at expanding its global network and improving connectivity for passengers across Europe, Africa, and the Indian Subcontinent.
The agreement with Icelandair will give customers access to 15 routes spanning India and Europe. Air India passengers will benefit from seamless travel options to Reykjavik via key European airports, as the airline places its ‘AI’ code on Icelandair-operated flights from Reykjavik to major cities including London Heathrow, London Gatwick, Frankfurt, Paris, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Milan, and Zurich. Icelandair passengers will, in turn, gain access to Air India-operated flights connecting Delhi and Mumbai with Europe, including routes to Amsterdam, Paris, Frankfurt, Copenhagen, and Heathrow.
Both airlines emphasized the benefits of the partnership, such as unified baggage allowances, enhanced connectivity, and greater travel flexibility. Air India CEO Campbell Wilson highlighted the value of linking India’s diverse cities with Iceland’s unique destinations, while Icelandair CEO Bogi Nils Bogason described the agreement as a milestone that broadens travel opportunities between the two regions.
Air India also expanded its existing codeshare arrangement with Air Mauritius, extending access across 17 routes in India, Mauritius, Réunion, South Africa, and Madagascar. Under the enhanced partnership, Air India will now codeshare on Air Mauritius flights to Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Antananarivo. Meanwhile, Air Mauritius will add its ‘MK’ designator on Air India’s flights between Mauritius and Mumbai, extending its reach further into India’s domestic network.
Air India already has existing codeshares with Air Mauritius covering flights between Mauritius and major Indian cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, and Goa. The expanded agreement deepens collaboration and enhances two-way connectivity for both leisure and business travelers.
Kishore Beegoo, Chairman of Air Mauritius, welcomed the collaboration, citing the appeal of Mauritius and the convenience it brings for Indian travelers heading to destinations beyond, including South Africa and Madagascar. Air India’s CEO added that the expansion aligns with growing tourism and trade flows between India and Southern Africa, reinforcing the airline’s goal of widening its global footprint.
The additional codeshare routes with both Icelandair and Air Mauritius will be available for booking beginning July 1, 2025.
