Air Inuit to Acquire Three Boeing 737-800 Aircraft for Passenger and Freight Services
Air Inuit, a leading airline serving Nunavik and beyond, has announced the ratification of an agreement for the acquisition of three Boeing Next-Generation 737-800 aircraft. The addition of these modern aircraft to Air Inuit’s fleet is part of their mission to provide world-class passenger and freight services to the people of Nunavik, as well as expanding their network. These aircraft will be customized with Air Inuit’s innovative combi configuration solution, allowing for simultaneous safe and comfortable passenger service and reliable freight delivery.
Christian Busch, President and CEO of Air Inuit, expressed enthusiasm about the fleet expansion, stating, “The addition of these aircraft to our fleet enhances our capacity to efficiently transport passengers and deliver essential cargo to the communities we serve.” He also emphasized the airline’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and combating climate change, as the new aircraft will help cut fuel emissions by nearly 40% when replacing the current Boeing 737-200 aircraft.
The three Boeing Next-Generation 737-800 aircraft will be equipped with main deck cargo doors to meet the requirements at various hubs across Nunavik and beyond, facilitating seamless cargo operations across Air Inuit’s network. This significant fleet upgrade marks a milestone for Air Inuit, which has been providing vital air services since its founding in 1978. Noah Tayara, Executive Chairman of Air Inuit, expressed pride in the airline’s growth and its ability to adapt to the evolving needs of the communities it serves.
Pita Aatami, President of Makivik Corporation, emphasized that the modernization of Air Inuit’s fleet is part of a broader initiative to serve as an instrument of economic and social development wholly owned by the Nunavik people. The Inuit of Nunavik have made important investments to support Air Inuit in fulfilling its mission. The introduction of the three new aircraft will be carried out gradually over the next 24 months, requiring important investments in upgrading Nunavik’s airstrips.
Air Inuit’s commitment to the region’s growth and prosperity is evident through its support of community organizations, cultural events, educational and sports programs, and employment access programs for Inuit people.
