Air Peace to Launch Abuja–Heathrow Flights in October 2025

After extensive negotiations and lobbying, Nigerian airline Air Peace has secured coveted slots to begin direct flights between Abuja and London-Heathrow Airport (LHR), starting October 26, 2025. The announcement marks a significant milestone for the carrier, which currently operates a three-times-weekly Lagos–London Gatwick service launched in March 2024.

The new Abuja–Heathrow route will operate four times weekly using Air Peace’s Boeing 777 fleet, which includes two 777-200s and one 777-300. The 777-200s feature 274 seats in a two-class layout, while the 777-300 accommodates 319 passengers. The expanded UK operations signal the airline’s growing international presence and its long-standing ambition to access Heathrow, one of the world’s busiest and most prestigious hubs.

Chairman Dr. Allen Onyema credited President Bola Tinubu and Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo for supporting the airline’s efforts, noting that this move underscores Air Peace’s role as Nigeria’s international flag carrier. For years, Air Peace had argued that foreign carriers enjoyed greater access to profitable routes, with the UK government previously citing a lack of available Heathrow slots.

The breakthrough came as Heathrow reallocated slots under the “use-it-or-lose-it” rule, allowing Air Peace to acquire four slot pairs for the Abuja service. The airline may consider transferring its Lagos–Gatwick flights to Heathrow in the future.

In addition, Air Peace plans to launch new routes to Guangzhou, China in October 2025 and Antigua and Barbuda in September, pending delivery of a fourth Boeing 777. The airline now flies 39 routes across 21 destinations in 11 countries.
