Air Tanzania has announced a large-scale recruitment campaign as the state-owned carrier enters a new growth phase following years of restructuring. The airline plans to fill 173 long-term positions across its operations, reinforcing its workforce to support an ambitious expansion of routes and fleet utilization.

The recruitment drive includes hiring 80 cabin crew—among them ten Chinese-speaking and ten French-speaking attendants—along with 45 first officers and 23 captains. These roles will support Air Tanzania’s 16-strong fleet, which includes Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners, Boeing 737-9s, an Airbus A220 fleet, a Boeing 767-300 freighter, and DHC-8 turboprops. Currently, all but one A220 are active, underscoring the airline’s readiness for sustained growth.

This initiative forms part of Air Tanzania’s ongoing five-year turnaround plan (2022/23–2026/27), aimed at expanding its international network and improving financial performance. The airline already operates international routes from Dar es Salaam to Guangzhou, Dubai, and Mumbai, as well as ten regional and sixteen domestic destinations.

CEO Peter Ulanga confirmed that West Africa is a key focus for expansion, prompting the need for multilingual crew. The airline recently launched thrice-weekly flights to Lagos and is seeking route approvals for Accra, Abidjan, and Dakar.

By expanding both its workforce and global reach, Air Tanzania is positioning itself to become a leading African carrier. The recruitment effort signals renewed stability and ambition as the airline strengthens its presence in competitive international markets.
