AirAsia Cambodia, the latest venture from Capital A, is poised to start its scheduled operations on May 2, 2024, signaling a new era for Cambodian aviation. The airline will initiate its journey with two A320-200 aircraft, covering a triangular route network that connects Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville. This strategic move is aimed at enhancing domestic travel and accessibility within Cambodia, aligning with the nation’s broader economic and tourism objectives.

Vissoth Nam, CEO of AirAsia Cambodia, expressed the airline’s ambition to revolutionize travel in Cambodia by integrating air travel as a core component of the national transport infrastructure. “We are confident that AirAsia Cambodia will play a pivotal role in reshaping the country’s aviation landscape, contributing to fostering the local economy by providing jobs to locals and unconditionally supporting Cambodia’s government aspirations for economic growth and tourism development,” stated Nam.

The establishment of AirAsia Cambodia is a collaborative effort between Capital A’s AirAsia Aviation Group and Sivilai Asia, a local hospitality entity. The partnership, holding a 51/49 equity split, has committed an initial capital of USD5 million to kickstart the low-cost carrier, with future plans to escalate the paid-up capital to USD25 million.

Tony Fernandes, CEO of Capital A, envisions a rapid expansion for AirAsia Cambodia, projecting a fleet growth to up to 15 aircraft. The airline aims to serve routes within a four-hour flight radius from Cambodia, potentially connecting various regional destinations and fostering increased mobility and tourism.

AirAsia Cambodia’s entry into the market introduces a fresh competitor to the Cambodian airline industry, which currently includes Cambodia Airways, Cambodia Angkor Air, Lanmei Airlines, and Sky Angkor Airlines. This development underscores AirAsia’s continued commitment to expanding its footprint in the Southeast Asian region, leveraging Cambodia’s strategic location and burgeoning travel demand to fuel growth and connectivity.

As AirAsia Cambodia gears up for its inaugural flights, the airline’s launch is eagerly anticipated by travelers and industry stakeholders alike, promising to enhance the Cambodian travel experience and contribute significantly to the country’s tourism and economic development.
