AirAsia, based at Kuala Lumpur International, has successfully leased three A320-200 aircraft from the now-insolvent MYAirline, based at Kuala Lumpur Subang. Bo Lingam, CEO of AirAsia Aviation Group, confirmed the agreement while speaking to Malaysia’s New Strait Times, noting that AirAsia had expressed interest in acquiring any available aircraft from MYAirline.

The deal, inked about a week ago, involved the payment of necessary deposits to the lessor, Aircastle. The A320-200s in question are identified as 9M-DAB (msn 4126), 9M-DAF (msn 4070), and 9M-DAG (msn 4088), all currently in storage at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, according to ch-aviation.

AirAsia has been contacted for additional details regarding the delivery timeline.

Following MYAirline’s cessation of operations in mid-October, the carrier’s nine A320-200s in Kuala Lumpur faced deregistration requests for several aircraft. Notable registrations include:

  • 9M-DAC (msn 5661), leased from Aviation Capital Group, now re-registered as VP-CBF and ferried to Woensdrecht last week.
  • 9M-DAD (msn 4098), leased from Genesis Aircraft Services, now re-registered as VP-CAQ and ferried to Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta earlier this month.
  • 9M-DAJ (msn 2968), leased from Avolon, now re-registered as VP-CBJ and ferried to Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
  • 9M-DAL (msn 4013), also leased from Avolon, now re-registered as VP-CBK and currently at Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

The remaining aircraft from MYAirline include the three A320-200s acquired by AirAsia, along with 9M-DAE (msn 3064), owned by Carlyle Aviation Partners, and 9M-DAN (msn 3349), supplied by SMBC Aviation Capital. The spokesperson for MYAirline stated that the aircraft nominally under the carrier’s control are currently supervised by lessors with assistance from the airline’s Continuing Airworthiness Management Organization. Advanced talks with potential investors are reportedly ongoing, and MYAirline hopes to announce the next stage shortly.
