airBaltic Cuts 2025 Flights Amid Engine Delays
airBaltic has announced plans to cancel approximately 5% of its 2025 flights due to ongoing Pratt & Whitney engine maintenance delays, which will sideline several A220-300 aircraft. The adjustments include suspending 19 routes and reducing frequencies on 21 others, significantly impacting the airline’s operations.
From its main base in Riga, airBaltic will discontinue ten routes, including Aberdeen, Belgrade, Cluj-Napoca, Yerevan, Gothenburg, Mykonos, Pristina, Rzeszow, Skopje, and Stavanger. Additional suspensions include routes from Vilnius to Dubrovnik, Ibiza, Rhodes, Chisinau, Tel Aviv, and Valencia, as well as flights from Tallinn to Dubrovnik and Hamburg, and from Tampere to Rhodes.
The airline’s summer 2025 schedule will shrink by 4,670 flights. Of its 49 A220-300s, only just over half will be available for its operations, with 21 already committed to Lufthansa Group under an ACMI agreement.
An airBaltic spokesperson declined to specify how many aircraft will remain grounded throughout 2025, citing variability in the situation. Currently, 14 of its A220-300s are inactive. These cancellations underscore the challenges faced by airlines relying on Pratt & Whitney engines amid widespread maintenance issues.
