Airbnb Reveals the Trendiest Summer Travel Destinations

Airbnb is unveiling this year’s top summer travel trends, including the destinations garnering the most interest among travelers in 2023.

The home-sharing platform found that guests are unsurprisingly in search of sun, sights, and hikes with the top five booked categories this summer including Beach, Amazing pools, Trending, Iconic cities and National parks.

Airbnb’s trending summer international destination from U.S. travelers based on Q1 searches include tourist hotspots such as Mykonos, Greece; Niagara Falls, Canada; Interlaken, Switzerland and Italy’s Amalfi Coast. Other trending summer destinations abroad include Florence, Italy; Bangkok, Thailand; Sorrento, Italy; Toronto, Canada; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Banff, Canada.

When it comes to domestic travel this summer, the hottest destinations based on Airbnb’s data include a pair of Kentucky cities in Louisville and Lexington. Interestingly, Louisville was even the sixth-most popular search worldwide in Q1. Elsewhere, Laconia, New Hampshire, Pittsburgh and Panama City, Florida are generating plenty of buzz.

Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Surf City, New Jersey; Bolivar Peninsula, Texas; Kansas City, Missouri and North Topsail Beach, North Carolina round out the list of the 10 trendiest U.S. destinations this summer, based on Q1 searches with Airbnb.

In addition to Louisville, the hottest summer destinations worldwide include Kuta Utara, Bali; Ksamil, Albania; Barcelona; London; Gotland, Sweden; Rome; Rouen, France; Marrakesh, Morocco and Grindelwald, Switzerland.
