Airbus Celebrates Tremendous Success with Over 800 Aircraft Orders at Paris Air Show 2023
The Paris Air Show held in 2023 marked a monumental triumph for Airbus as it secured a staggering 800 aircraft orders, cementing the aircraft manufacturer’s optimistic outlook for the future. The eagerly awaited half-yearly financial report, published on July 26, 2023, revealed Airbus’ confirmed orders of 1,044 aircraft, a remarkable increase compared to the 259 orders at the same time the previous year.
IndiGo, a major player at the event, set the stage by placing an extraordinary order for 500 Airbus A320-family aircraft. Not to be outdone, Air India made significant purchases, including 140 A320neo and 70 A321neo single-aisle planes, along with 34 A350-1000 and six A350-900 wide-body jets.
Airbus CEO, Guillaume Faury, expressed his satisfaction with the company’s performance during the first half of 2023 in a complex operational environment. He attributed the strong demand for their commercial aircraft to both fleet growth and airlines’ desire to invest in more fuel-efficient fleets. This demand, highlighted by the overwhelming orders announced at the Paris Air Show, has reaffirmed Airbus’ 2023 guidance.
The outstanding success was evident in Airbus’ order backlog at the end of June 2023, reaching a record-breaking 7,967 commercial aircraft. Additionally, Airbus Helicopters received 131 net orders, which included 19 H160s, reflecting a positive spread across programs.
In terms of financial performance, Airbus Defence and Space’s order intake for the first half of 2023 reached €6.0 billion ($6.6 billion), while consolidated revenues increased by 11% year-on-year, amounting to €27.7 billion ($30.8 billion).
Airbus’ commitment to production updates is also evident, with a continuous ramp-up on the A220 program aiming for a monthly production rate of 14 aircraft in the middle of the decade. Progress on the A320 family program is on track, targeting a production rate of 75 aircraft per month by 2026. The A321XLR flight test program is progressing well, with an anticipated entry-into-service in Q2 2024. Furthermore, Airbus is focused on achieving a monthly production rate of four for the A330 in 2024 and nine for the A350 by the end of 2025.
With soaring order figures, impressive financial results, and ambitious production plans, Airbus is undoubtedly on a trajectory of success in the aviation industry.
