Airbus Delivers 766 Aircraft in 2024, Orders Surge
Airbus had a commendable 2024, delivering 766 commercial aircraft to 86 customers worldwide, despite narrowly missing its delivery target. Christian Scherer, Airbus’ CEO of Commercial Aircraft, described the year as a “good year” during a statement on January 9, 2025. This positive outlook comes even as the company adjusted its annual delivery goal from 800 to approximately 770 planes in July 2024, primarily due to shortages of engines and other critical components.
The Airbus Group also reported an impressive 878 gross new orders in 2024, highlighting sustained global demand for its aircraft. Scherer emphasized that the year confirmed “sustained demand for new aircraft,” noting significant wins with key customers and remarkable momentum in its widebody order book. This growth complements Airbus’ leading position in the single-aisle market, further solidifying its dominance in the commercial aviation sector.
One of the standout achievements for Airbus in 2024 was the delivery of the first-ever A321XLR, as well as the inaugural deliveries of the A330neo and A350 to several global customers. These landmark deliveries mark significant milestones for Airbus, showcasing the company’s ability to innovate and meet the evolving needs of its diverse clientele.
Despite falling short of the original delivery target, Airbus maintained a steady trajectory throughout the year. To achieve the initial goal, the company would have needed to deliver around 127 aircraft in December 2024. However, only 123 planes were delivered that month. In comparison, Airbus successfully met its 2023 delivery target of approximately 720 aircraft, including 112 deliveries in December 2023.
Throughout 2024, Airbus focused on expanding its fleet with a variety of aircraft models. The A320 family led the deliveries with 604 units, followed by 75 A220 family aircraft, 57 A350 family planes, and 32 A330 family aircraft. This diverse range of deliveries underscores Airbus’ commitment to catering to different market segments, from single-aisle short-haul flights to long-haul, widebody operations.
Scherer highlighted the collaborative effort behind Airbus’ success, stating, “Given the complex and fast-changing environment we continue to operate in, we consider 2024 a good year. It has been a massive team effort to deliver this 2024 result. A big thanks to Team Airbus who do what they do, every day, for our customers. And a big thanks to our customers for continuing to put their trust in us and grow our partnerships across the world.”
Looking ahead, Airbus remains optimistic about its growth trajectory. The company is focused on overcoming supply chain challenges and continuing to innovate with new aircraft models and technologies. The strong order book and steady deliveries position Airbus well for future growth, ensuring that it remains a key player in the global aviation industry.
Airbus’ performance in 2024 reflects its resilience and ability to navigate a challenging market environment. The company’s strategic adjustments and unwavering focus on customer satisfaction have enabled it to achieve substantial milestones despite external constraints. As the aviation industry continues to recover and grow post-pandemic, Airbus is well-positioned to capitalize on emerging opportunities and maintain its leadership in aircraft manufacturing.
