Airbus to Open Second A320neo Assembly Line in Mobile, Alabama

Airbus will open a second final assembly line for A320neo jets at its Mobile, Alabama facility next month, marking a major milestone in U.S. aircraft production. The expansion coincides with the 10th anniversary of Airbus’ Mobile site, which has grown from 300 employees in 2015 to more than 2,000 today and has become a cornerstone of America’s aerospace industry.
The new assembly line highlights Mobile’s increasing role in global commercial aircraft manufacturing. Supported by a skilled workforce, a growing supplier network and a thriving local economy, the second A320neo line will boost Airbus’ production capacity in the U.S. and strengthen its ability to meet record demand for single-aisle aircraft.
“What began as a vision has evolved into something truly special, creating thousands of jobs, fostering generational careers, and driving substantial economic growth — not just in Mobile — but across the region,” said Daryl Taylor, Senior Vice President of Commercial Aircraft Operations in the U.S. at Airbus. “I could not be more proud of our team.”
Workers at the Airbus facility in Alabama are primarily local U.S. residents from the Gulf Coast region, particularly the Mobile area, with Airbus establishing programs to recruit and train local talent. While the workforce is American, some personnel receive initial training in Europe, and a small number of European employees provide oversight.
Airbus celebrated a decade of U.S. aircraft production on September 14, 2025. Since delivering its first U.S.-built aircraft — a JetBlue A321 named “BluesMobile” in 2016 — the Alabama campus has expanded from 116 to 190 acres and delivered hundreds of A320-family aircraft to customers across the U.S. and Latin America. The Mobile site also produces the A220, further cementing its role in Airbus’ global industrial footprint.
Employees reflected on the growth and impact of the Mobile operation. “This was a chance to prove to the world what my home could do and what the people of Alabama could accomplish,” said A320 Quality Inspector Bryan Nixon. “I know our product will enable families to come together and make memories for at least the next 25 years.”
Stephanie Burt, Head of Human Resources, added, “I never imagined that just 10 years, 2,000 employees, and three assembly lines later, we’d have the opportunity to grow so big.” She emphasized that working at Airbus offers “generational careers that will change people’s lives and their family dynamic for decades to come.”
Shehan Correa, Head of the Structures Engineering Team, said the city continues to grow into a major aerospace hub. “If we’ve come this far in 10 years, I can’t even begin to imagine what we could be in 20 to 30 years,” he noted.
Steve Franklin, Senior Director of Plant Production Support, recalled the early days of aircraft production in Mobile. “Chances are, you knew everyone’s children and dogs’ names too,” he said. “When that first aircraft took its first flight, just to see it lift its wheels off the ground was incredible.”
With its second A320neo assembly line set to open, Airbus is reinforcing its long-term commitment to U.S. manufacturing and to Mobile’s emergence as one of the world’s fastest-growing aerospace hubs.
