Airlines Adjust Fall Flight Schedule to Maui in Light of Wildfire Recovery Efforts

Airlines are cutting back on flights to Maui in the wake of this month’s devastating wildfires.

United Airlines has dramatically reduced its flight schedule from the mainland U.S. to Maui this fall. According to the latest Cirium flight schedule data, the carrier has cut its planned seat count into Maui by 50.9 percent for September and October as the island recovers.

United has dropped just nine of the 131 flights planned to Maui’s Kahului Airport from San Francisco during the next two months. However, it has eliminated service to Maui from Denver and Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport for September and most of October. Those flights could resume by October 29.

Meanwhile, the airline has cut its schedule to Maui from Los Angeles by approximately half, eliminating 63 out of the 124 flights it had previously planned.

American Airlines has also made changes in response to this month’s natural disaster. The carrier removed 50 flights and almost 10,000 seats between Los Angeles and Kahului for September and has cut the route in half for October, removing 31 flights in each direction and more than 13,000 seats.

Finally, data shows that American’s Dallas/Fort Worth to Kahului route was reduced by just one frequency.

Alaska Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines and Southwest Airlines are also making changes and are likely to continue to adjust their schedules amid reduced demand.
