Airport Nürnberg (NUE) has been recognized as the winner in the Under 5 Million Passenger category at the Routes Europe Awards, held in Aarhus. This accolade highlights NUE’s remarkable recovery, having rebounded to 95% of its pre-pandemic passenger volume, surpassing the German average of 78%. Currently serving 28 airlines, the airport has significantly expanded its network with 16 new destinations added since 2019, offering a total of 65 nonstop connections.

NUE attributes its success to a proactive approach in adapting to evolving passenger trends and a strategic “Blue Ocean Airport Nürnberg” campaign. This initiative strategically avoids saturated markets, focusing instead on identifying high-demand unserved routes. This approach has been integral to NUE’s route development and marketing efforts, ensuring alignment with the needs of its airline partners.

Eurowings has contributed to NUE’s growth by expanding its presence and introducing new routes. This summer, Eurowings launched services to Rome, Nice, and Bastia from NUE, while plans are underway to commence operations to Hamburg with six weekly flights starting in winter 2024, expanding Eurowings’ total destinations from NUE to 11.

Christian Käser, NUE’s vice president of aviation sales and traffic development, expressed gratitude for the Routes Awards recognition, stating, “It’s fantastic and a great honor for us. We see it as a confirmation of our work because it is important to get such feedback from your airline partners that you are on the right track.”

Looking ahead, NUE aims to further enhance its connectivity, focusing on destinations across the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, and the Nordic market. The airport continues to promote its successes and future opportunities through its Routes 360 profile, emphasizing sustainable growth and strategic development in the aviation industry.
