Airport Updates: Global News on Projects and Investments

Airports worldwide continue to advance infrastructure, financing, and sustainability initiatives. Here’s the latest from the global airport market for the week commencing July 7, 2025.
In Greenland, the Danish government is injecting DKK 1.5 billion ($240 million) into Greenland Airports International to support the completion of a new international airport in Ilulissat. This includes DKK 1.1 billion in state re-lending and a DKK 0.4 billion construction grant. The project, expected to launch in late 2026, follows the November 2024 opening of Nuuk Airport. The funding aims to enable direct international flights to both cities.
Spain’s airport operator AENA is accelerating its 2022–2026 investment plan, committing an additional €351 million ($412 million). Highlights include €84 million for Palma de Mallorca terminal renovations, €86 million for security automation, and €62 million for cybersecurity. Other airports set to benefit include Valencia, Bilbao, Málaga, Ibiza, Menorca, and Tenerife.
In Canada, Halifax Stanfield International Airport has opened a new International Connections Facility. The C$11.3 million ($8.2 million) project simplifies transfers by allowing passengers to remain airside. Renovations to the international arrivals area will continue through 2025.
Norwegian airport operator Avinor signed a NOK 1.9 billion ($190 million) contract with Hent for the construction of the new Bodø Airport’s terminal and operations buildings. Construction is set to begin in August, with the facility designed to handle 2.3 million annual passengers.
In British Columbia, Canada, C$6.2 million will be distributed through the BC Air Access Program to upgrade 16 regional airports and heliports, enhancing medevac access and airfield infrastructure across the province.
