Airways Aviation Buys Five eDA40 Electric Trainers
Airways Aviation has signed a deal with Diamond Aircraft to acquire five all-electric eDA40 training aircraft, marking a notable step in the academy’s move toward sustainable aviation. The agreement was finalized on June 20, 2025, the closing day of the Paris Air Show, making it one of the final transactions confirmed at the event.
In a public statement shared on LinkedIn, Airways Aviation emphasized that the purchase reflects its ongoing commitment to next-generation aviation technology aimed at delivering safer, more efficient, and environmentally conscious flight training programs. The announcement underlines the company’s strategic direction as it continues investing in modernizing its fleet with cleaner, quieter, and more cost-effective aircraft.
Romy Hawatt, Founder and Chairman of Airways Aviation, described the acquisition as a major advancement in the academy’s sustainability goals. “The eDA40 represents a significant step forward in reducing carbon emissions and operational costs without compromising the high training standards we are known for,” he said.
The eDA40 is poised to become the first all-electric aircraft certified under EASA/FAA Part 23 regulations. Purpose-built for training, the aircraft features a fully electric propulsion system that offers substantial reductions in noise and direct operating expenses. It is designed to meet the rigorous demands of flight academies while aligning with global environmental targets in aviation.
Airways Aviation Group Chief Commercial Officer Alexandre Alves added that the introduction of the eDA40 is part of a broader, forward-looking fleet strategy. “The addition of the eDA40 to our fleet reflects a deliberate and forward-looking strategy. Airways Aviation is ready to meet those expectations and set new industry benchmarks,” he stated.
This latest acquisition also reinforces a long-standing relationship between Airways Aviation and Diamond Aircraft. The Austrian aircraft manufacturer already supplies a large portion of the flight school’s current fleet, and the purchase of the electric variant represents what the company calls “the next phase” of their collaboration.
Jane Wang, Sales Director of Diamond Aircraft Austria, welcomed the agreement, noting the significance of the partnership. “We are excited that our long-term customer Airways Aviation has chosen to acquire the eDA40 once again at the Paris Air Show 2025,” she said. “This investment highlights our shared commitment to cutting-edge technology, sustainability in flight training, and further strengthens our strategic partnership.”
As the aviation industry increasingly turns its focus toward reducing emissions and operating costs, flight training organizations like Airways Aviation are looking to electric aircraft as a way to meet these goals. With the purchase of five eDA40s, Airways Aviation positions itself as an early adopter of certified electric flight training, setting the stage for a new era in pilot education and sustainable aviation operations.
