AJet to Add Five A320neos via SMBC Lease Deal

Turkish Airlines’ low-cost subsidiary AJet is set to receive five Airbus A320neo aircraft through a lease agreement with SMBC Aviation Capital. The Dublin-based lessor announced on July 4, 2025, that deliveries will begin at the end of this year and continue through the second quarter of 2026.
This deal brings SMBC’s total aircraft placements with Turkish Airlines to 25 since 2022. The newly leased A320neos will be operated exclusively by AJet, supporting its plans to expand and modernize its fleet with more fuel-efficient and cost-effective aircraft.
“These new Airbus A320neo aircraft will bolster our operations with their superior fuel efficiency and cost-effectiveness,” said Murat Şeker, Chief Financial Officer of Turkish Airlines. “AJet’s mission is to make air travel more accessible and budget-friendly for all.”
Barry Flannery, Chief Commercial Officer at SMBC Aviation Capital, emphasized the significance of the deal, calling it a testament to the lessor’s strong relationship with Turkish Airlines and a step toward supporting a more sustainable aviation sector.
AJet, formerly AnadoluJet, launched operations under its new brand in 2024. The airline currently operates a fleet of 90 aircraft, with approximately 80% on wet lease. It owns five A320-200s and 15 Boeing 737-800s, and is awaiting the arrival of 10 Airbus A321neos and 12 Boeing 737 MAX 8s.
The addition of the A320neo aircraft is expected to enhance AJet’s operational capabilities while supporting its growth as a competitive low-cost carrier in the region.
