Alaska Airlines has announced the largest aircraft order in the airline’s history, placing a blockbuster deal for 105 Boeing 737-10 aircraft and five Boeing 787 widebody jets, extending its delivery stream through 2035. The announcement was made on January 7, 2026, in Seattle, where Alaska’s leadership joined representatives from Boeing and the U.S. Department of Transportation to celebrate the commitment.

The order also includes rights for an additional 35 737-10 aircraft under the same delivery timeframe. This historic transaction secures critical delivery slots and reinforces Alaska’s long-term growth strategy under its Alaska Accelerate plan, designed to support steady, scalable expansion and global connectivity.

“These planes will fuel our expansion to more destinations across the globe and ensure our guests travel aboard the newest, most fuel-efficient and state-of-the-art aircraft,” said CEO Ben Minicucci. The airline described the order as a key building block in executing its strategic vision and strengthening ties with Boeing, a long-time partner and Pacific Northwest neighbour.

“This is a historic airplane order underwritten by Alaska Airlines’ record of strong performance and strategic expansion. All of us at Boeing are proud of Alaska’s success and are honored they have placed their trust in our people and our 737 and 787 airplanes to help grow their airline,” said Stephanie Pope, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes.

The deal brings Alaska’s total Boeing orderbook to 245 aircraft, supplementing the 94 Boeing 737 Max jets already in service. The mix of new aircraft will support both network growth and the retirement of older airframes, keeping Alaska’s fleet among the youngest and most fuel-efficient in the global airline industry.

The five widebody jets will be delivered as Boeing 787-10s and bolster Alaska’s expanded long-haul international footprint. The airline plans to operate at least 12 long-haul international destinations from its Seattle hub by 2030, leveraging the Dreamliner’s efficiency and passenger comfort on transoceanic routes. With these additions, Alaska’s total future 787 fleet will reach 17 aircraft, including five already in operation across the network.

Looking ahead, Alaska Air Group expects its total fleet to grow from roughly 413 aircraft today to more than 475 by 2030 and over 550 by 2035, reflecting the airline’s ambitious growth outlook and global aspirations.

The order comes as Alaska continues transforming into a global airline, introducing a new livery for its first Boeing 787-9 that draws inspiration from the Aurora Borealis. The exterior paint scheme, showcased at the order event, reflects Alaska’s branding and its expanded reach into Europe and Asia.

Alaska already operates a mix of Boeing 737-8 and 737-9 aircraft on domestic and regional routes, with the new 737-10 jets adding capacity and flexibility while preserving fleet commonality.

This historic order solidifies Alaska Airlines’ position as one of the industry’s most forward-looking carriers, combining fleet modernisation with strategic expansion into long-haul global markets.
