Alaska Airlines Crew Subdues Passenger After Assault Incident

Flight attendants on Alaska Airlines Flight 2221 had to physically restrain a passenger who assaulted a female passenger and disrupted the flight. The incident occurred on February 1, as the plane prepared to depart from Oakland, California, to Portland, Oregon.
According to Alaska Airlines, the passenger experienced a “violent medical episode” and began pulling the hair of a woman seated in front of him. A viral video shared on social media shows a flight attendant repeatedly ordering the man to release the woman’s hair while attempting to push him away. The woman, visibly distressed, managed to leave her seat once freed.
“I need another able-bodied male to help me,” the flight attendant was heard saying as the passenger continued screaming. Alaska Airlines later confirmed the man assaulted other passengers and crew members before being restrained.
The airline commended the flight attendants for their quick response in ensuring the safety of everyone on board. The disruptive passenger has since been banned from flying with Alaska Airlines and its regional partner, Horizon Air.
The flight was ultimately canceled after one crew member declined to continue following the incident.
This episode adds to a string of recent mid-flight disturbances, including a similar altercation on an American Airlines flight in October. Additionally, an American Airlines flight from Austin to Charlotte experienced a delay earlier this month due to concerns over a suspicious Wi-Fi hotspot name referencing a bomb.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
