Alaska Airlines is boosting its presence in Latin America with new flights to Guatemala and Mexico, starting this winter.

The airline announced that it will launch flights between Guatemala City and Los Angeles on Dec. 14, marking its second destination in Central America after Costa Rica. The flights will operate four times a week, using Boeing 737 aircraft.

Alaska also said that it will introduce seasonal service from Chicago and San Diego to Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, a popular beach resort in Mexico. The flights will operate twice a week, from Dec. 18 to April 23, using Embraer 175 aircraft.

With the new routes, Alaska will offer as many as 18 nonstop flights to 12 destinations in Latin America every day, including Mexico City, Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas, Loreto and Mazatlan.

The airline said that the new flights are part of its strategy to connect its customers to more international destinations, especially in warm and sunny places. The airline also said that it has partnered with several airlines in the region, such as Aeromexico and Copa Airlines, to provide more options and benefits for its passengers.

“We are excited to expand our network in Latin America and offer our customers more choices and convenience to travel to these beautiful destinations,” said Brett Catlin, vice president of network and alliances at Alaska Airlines.
