If you’re longing for winter escapes to snow-capped mountains or tropical beaches, Alaska Airlines has you covered. The airline has just announced an expansive winter route schedule that includes 18 new flights across North and Central America. This move targets some of the most popular ski resorts in the U.S. and Canada, alongside sunny escapes in Mexico and Costa Rica. Whether you’re seeking adventure on the slopes or relaxation by the sea, Alaska Airlines is making it easier to get to your dream destination.

Alaska Airlines Adds Vail to Its Network

One of the most anticipated additions to Alaska Airlines’ network is Vail, Colorado, a premier ski destination. Starting December 20, 2024, the airline will offer direct flights to Eagle County Regional Airport (EGE) from Seattle and San Diego. These routes, operated on Embraer 175 aircraft, will run three times a week until March 16, 2025. This makes Alaska Airlines the only carrier to offer these direct connections to Vail, giving travelers exclusive access to one of the largest ski resorts in the U.S.

Vail boasts 5,289 acres of skiing and snowboarding terrain, 193 trails, and 33 chair lifts, catering to all skill levels. Beyond the slopes, visitors can explore the Colorado Snowsport Museum, go snowmobiling, ice skating, or simply enjoy Vail’s vibrant après-ski scene. Luxury accommodations like the Four Seasons Resort Vail and Antlers at Vail offer everything from spacious suites to outdoor heated pools, ensuring a comfortable and memorable stay.

New Flight Routes to Sun and Ski Destinations

In addition to Vail, Alaska Airlines’ winter expansion includes new routes to several other destinations across North America. These routes cater to both winter sports enthusiasts and those seeking warmer getaways. Notable routes include:

  • Fresno Yosemite International Airport (FAT) to Guadalajara, Mexico (GDL): Daily service from December 3 to February 12, 2025, on Boeing 737 aircraft.
  • Boise Airport (BOI) to Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (BZN): Five times weekly from December 19 to March 17, 2025, on Embraer 175 aircraft.
  • Los Angeles (LAX) to Kelowna, Canada (YLW): Daily flights from December 19 to March 17, 2025.
  • San Francisco (SFO) to Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR): Weekly service from December 21 to May 10, 2025, on Boeing 737 aircraft.
  • Seattle (SEA) to Liberia, Costa Rica: Weekly service from December 21 to May 11, 2025.

These new routes enhance Alaska Airlines’ ability to provide direct access to premier winter and tropical destinations, allowing travelers more options than ever before.

Expanding Connections to Mexico and Central America

Alaska Airlines continues to expand its network in Mexico and Central America. From Sacramento, passengers can enjoy direct flights to Los Cabos, Tucson, and Orlando starting in January 2025. Meanwhile, New Yorkers can escape the cold with new service from JFK to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Kansas City and St. Louis travelers also benefit from new flights to Cancun and Puerto Vallarta.

The expansion reflects Alaska Airlines’ commitment to meeting diverse travel preferences, whether passengers are chasing the perfect wave or the ultimate ski slope.

Additional Alaska Airlines Announcements

Alaska’s latest route announcements come on the heels of several other expansions. In November, the airline will begin flights from Los Angeles to La Paz, Baja California Sur, and Monterrey, Mexico. Additionally, Alaska Airlines recently launched a seasonal route connecting Anchorage to New York’s JFK, marking the only nonstop service between the two cities. However, this seasonal route will conclude on August 19, 2024.

As tickets for these new routes are already available on the airline’s website, now is the perfect time to plan your next winter getaway with Alaska Airlines. Whether you’re looking to hit the slopes or soak up the sun, their extensive network has a flight for you.
