Alaska Airlines is preparing to receive the 737 MAX 9 that Samoa Airways ordered in 2019 and cancelled shortly after.

Back in 2019, Samoa Airways has a plan to upgrade its fleet to all-new 737 MAX 9. It previously signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in Apia for the lease placement of one new Boeing 737-9 MAX 9 aircraft with Air Lease Corporation (ALC). However, the deadly crashes that happened during the same year made the airline change its mind and get cold on operating the type.

The aircraft meant for Samoa Airways in March 2019 has now found a new home at Alaska Airlines. Alaska has an order for a total of 93 737 MAX 9s, five of which have already been delivered.
