Alaska Airlines, a prominent US carrier, has unveiled plans to introduce a transcontinental route, set to commence operations in the summer of 2024. This new route will offer nonstop service between San Diego and Atlanta, significantly expanding the airline’s domestic network and providing travelers between these two cities with increased options and convenience.

The daily flights from San Diego to Atlanta are scheduled to take off on May 16, 2024. The departure is set for 10:00 a.m. from San Diego International Airport (SAN), with an arrival time of 4:30 p.m. local time at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). The return journey will commence at ATL at 8:50 a.m., touching down at SAN at 10:00 a.m. local time. Alaska Airlines will deploy a Boeing 737-900 aircraft for this route, configured to accommodate up to 181 passengers across two travel classes.

This latest route marks the third and fourth direct air connections between San Diego and Atlanta, complementing existing services operated by Delta Air Lines and Southwest Airlines. Alaska Airlines already serves Atlanta from its main hub in Seattle, along with routes from Portland and Los Angeles. Additionally, the airline provides connectivity to 36 other destinations from San Diego, including major cities like New York, Boston, Orlando, Honolulu, and Mexico City.

Kirsten Amrine, Alaska Airlines’ Vice President of Revenue Management and Network Planning, emphasized the airline’s commitment to expanding its network for Southern California travelers. She expressed confidence in the robust demand for the airline’s reliable and affordable service on this new route.

Kimberly Becker, President and CEO of the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, expressed appreciation for Alaska Airlines’ ongoing efforts to provide enhanced travel options to various destinations nationwide. She highlighted the significance of the new nonstop route to Atlanta, offering direct access to the capital of Georgia, a vital economic hub, as well as facilitating easy connections to other regions across the United States.
